Main Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Management of a team of structural engineers
  • Designing of steel frames for Design & Build Projects
  • Connection Design / Structural Analysis – responsible to ensure all connections are designed with sufficient
  • Design to ensure structural capacity to support the structure whilst being subjected to the specified ultimate forces.
  • Continuous collaboration & enabling the detailing office to produce detailed structural models and drawings for fabrication purposes.
  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements and contract specifications.
  • Liaising and meeting with project design teams, architects, engineers, and main contractors to ensure projects are designed and fabricated in accordance with project specifications.
  • Continuous collaboration with the detailing office, addressing structural design queries and ensuring connections for fabrication purposes are detailed in accordance with the engineer / contractor design intent and to meet with available steel section sizes.
  • Technical engineering support to production management personnel and site teams.
  • Co-ordination of project specific structural design submittals / RFI’s for client review, ensuring projects remain within contract and specification requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Structural Engineering (Level 8)
  • Membership of Engineers Ireland / IStructE or similar across Europe
  • Experience in the structural steel industry, from both site and design office perspectives
  • Structural Steel background IS A MUST to apply for this role.

Working Conditions

  • Office based, occasional site visits for design review meetings, site inspections, etc.

Job Brief

 A new and exciting opportunity has arisen in Kiernan Steel – We are seeking an experienced procurement manager for a full-time permanent role at their head office. This is an opportunity to join a successful and rapidly growing business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-qualification and set up of new suppliers according to company procedures. Carry out regular supplier assessment of existing suppliers. Negotiate agreements and prices with suppliers.
  • Assists with the planning and management of budgets, policies, and practices for the company.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Manage company internal purchasing system in line with company policy, ensuring all information is accurate and up to date.
  • Provide all requested purchasing and supplier related reports including quarterly spend report, monthly KPI reports, and other report information requested by senior management.
  • Reporting of all procurement saving.
  • Conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality.
  • liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, and relevant internal departments.
  • forecast price trends and their impact on future activities.
  • Develop a purchasing strategy.
  • Manage and responsible for purchasing department.

Essential Requirements

  • Candidates must have a graduated from one of the following disciplines – Purchasing and supply, Business Studies.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Must have strong business and commercial acumen.
  • Be an experienced negotiator.
  • Ability to build and develop strong trusting relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
  • Must be a self-starter, be goal focused and work on your own initiative.
  • Excellent at working under strict deadlines and ability to prioritize and delegate workload accordingly.
  • Must have excellent organizational and multitasking skills, and attention to detail.

Project Quality Engineer

Founded in 1989, and based out of Longford, Kiernan Structural Steel Limited is one of Ireland’s Steel Fabrication and Erection Companies. The company employs over 200 people directly and has worked on projects throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Job Summary:
We are looking to appoint a Project Quality Engineer to work across some of the largest construction projects in Ireland. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and motivated with good communication skills and able to work independently as well as part of a team. The desired candidate should be able to demonstrate a pragmatic and proactive approach to problem-solving and an ability to liaise with site management and client’s representatives as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • The development and implementation of the Project Quality Plan;
  • Development of Inspection & Test Plans in conjunction with Site Engineers/Head Office;
  • Ensuring implementation of I&T Plans and production of Quality Records;
  • Ensure that the welding procedure is available, and in compliance with technical specification;
  • Ensuring all testing is carried out as required and examination of results for compliance;
  • Calibration/control of site instruments;
  • Management of testing lab;
  • Manage, maintain and assist in update of the company IMS;
  • Preparation of reports for client and company management;
  • Audits of all activities – both first and second party;
  • Manage and Co-ordinate the production of handover documentation to the client;
  • Development of Weekly Report of Quality Issues arising from Factory Issued Materials.

Requirements:

  • Construction background and experience
  • Third level qualification in a construction discipline – engineering, construction management, surveying or similar
  • Experience in a similar role in a construction company
  • Experience and knowledge of the structures of ISO 9001:2015, CE Marking and Welding Specifications
  • Training and experience in QMS/IMS Auditing
  • Strong IT Skills
  • Ability to manage, maintain and update the company QMS/IMS
  • Ability to produce clear and concise documentation
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and progressive attitude and approach
  • Ability to work as part of the overall management team.
  • Full clean driving license

Senior Buyer

Monday to Thursday 8am – 5 pm Friday 8am-4pm

This position will suit strong Buyer ideally coming from a Construction or Engineering industry background.
Experience in commodities would be extremely beneficial but not essential!
